What's the point of vacation if you can't bring your best friend? Pet dogs are welcome at many hotel chains, from Fairmont hotels to Motel 6 (always free!), though size restrictions can apply. Some Northwest destinations go the extra mile for pets, providing dog beds and extra snuggles; these are our favorites.

Alderbrook Resort

Dogs who know their true place are a good fit for the VIP package at the Hood Canal resort, which comes with treats, toys, and a signature bandana, and the kitchen can do custom pet meals. The regular pet fee covers a dog bed and food bowls. When wandering the waterfront property, dogs may encounter the resident cats, Alder and Brook—so leashes are required.

Opus Hotel

The downtown Vancouver hotel specializes in colorful getaways, the hotel rooms bright with greens and pinks and with windows overlooking bustling Yaletown. Dogs are served organic treats from Moonlight Natural Pet Store and sleep in a pup tent. The urban location sits between two off-leash dog areas, including one on the city's seawall.

Suncadia Resort

Located near Cle Elum in the woodsy Cascades, Suncadia suits an outdoorsy kind of pup. Pet-friendly rooms come with a trail map to show owners where to explore, along with safety information about keeping dogs and wildlife separate. Fortunately, there's an off-leash dog area at Dawson Park on the Suncadia property, ideal for getting the wiggles out without encountering any deer or bears.

MotoLodge Pendleton

Harking back to the golden era of roadside motels, Pendleton's new property updates an old building with modern amenities like a hot tub, pool, and sauna. Aimed at van lifers and motorcyclists, rooms include boot dryers and tool stations. Dog wash stations allow for a mid–road trip rinse.

Hotel Vintage

Many of downtown Portland's hotels are dog-friendly, but Hotel Vintage goes a step further. Not only is there no pet fee, but guests are not prohibited from leaving a dog in the room alone—unlike almost every other hotel that accepts furry friends. At check-in, owners get a door hanger to alert housekeeping staff that a dog is home alone. Guests also get a discount on walks booked with the service Wag and their friends are welcome at the nightly happy hour.

Roosevelt Inn

While many modern boutique hotels accept pets, Coeur d'Alene's historic Roosevelt brings pets into a cozy bed and breakfast setting. The resident golden retrievers, Gondor and Rohan, form the greeting committee, bestowing a welcome kit with treats, doggie bags, and a tennis ball. Dogs are allowed to wander the grounds around the stately building first built as a schoolhouse, and there are at least 10 dog-friendly restaurants in the surrounding area.
